Troubleshooting Steps
Step 1: Verify the Correct Printer Is Selected
1. Click Print.
2. In the print settings, verify that the correct printer is selected next to Destination.
3. If you do not see the printer you need, click See more under Destination.
4. If you know which printer you need, select it from the list.
5. If you do not know which printer to select, contact the IT Help Desk.
Step 2: Check the Printer
1. Verify that the printer is powered on.
2. Check the printer display for any error messages.
3. Verify that the printer has paper loaded.
4. If you see a paper jam or other error that you are comfortable resolving, follow the instructions displayed on the printer.
5. If the printer appears ready and does not display any errors, continue to Step 3.
Step 3: Check Print Jobs
1. Click the clock in the lower-right corner of the screen.
2. Select Print Jobs if it is listed.
3. If Print Jobs is not listed, click the Launcher (circle in the lower-left corner of the screen) and search for Print Jobs.
4. Check whether any print jobs are listed.
5. If a print job appears stuck, select Cancel.
6. Continue to Step 4 if the document still doesn’t print.
Step 4: Try Printing a Different Document
1. Open a different document.
2. Try printing it.
3. If the second document prints successfully, the issue may be with the original document.
TIP: If only one document is failing to print, save it as a PDF (if it is not already a PDF), upload it to Google Drive, and try printing it from there.
If the document prints but part of the page is cut off, select Print as image and try printing again.
Step 5: Restart the Chromebook
1. Make sure all of your work is saved.
2. Shut down the Chromebook completely by holding the power button for 10–15 seconds.
3. Turn the Chromebook back on.
4. Try printing again.
Step 6: Restart the Printer
1. Verify that no one else is actively using the printer.
2. Turn the printer off.
3. Wait 30 seconds.
4. Turn the printer back on.
5. Wait for the printer to finish starting up.
6. Try printing again.
Step 7: Ask a Nearby Coworker to Test the Printer
1. Ask a nearby coworker to print a document to the same printer.
2. If the coworker can print successfully, the issue may be limited to your Chromebook, account, or document.
3. If the coworker cannot print successfully, the issue is likely related to the printer or network connection.
Step 8: Contact the IT Help Desk
If the issue continues after completing the steps above, submit a Freshdesk ticket to the IT Help Desk: https://valaspumpkinpatch.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new
Include the following information:
-Which printer you were trying to use
-Whether a coworker was able to print to the same printer
-Any error messages you received
-Which troubleshooting steps you completed
